Kumar (Mohammad) Alam, LPC

Kumar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wittenberg University and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wilmington University. Additionally, Kumar earned a professional certificate in Financial Fraud and Compliance Operations, highlighting a diverse background that informs his understanding of human behavior and systems.

A long-time believer of mental wellness, Kumar was inspired to pursue counseling after witnessing his mother’s struggles with depression, suicide, and schizophrenia. Along with his own personal struggles, these early experiences instilled a deep commitment to helping others navigate their mental health journeys. During his undergraduate internship with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Springfield, Ohio Kumar solidified his passion for providing mental health support.

Before becoming a counselor, Kumar worked in bank fraud prevention for eight years identifying scams, organized fraud rings, and catching fraudsters. When COVID-19 enveloped the world it prompted Kumar to engage in self-reflection about his career. It was a turning point, sparking a desire to pursue more meaningful work. This led to Kumar’s return to graduate studies and eventual transition into the field of therapy.

As a therapist, Kumar deeply believes in the Rogerian client-centered approach as well as the evidence based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, among other modalities. Kumar  blends compassion, empathy, and a focus on the therapeutic alliance to help individuals achieve growth and healing. His journey demonstrates the power of resilience and finding purpose in helping others thrive.
