Jacob Pollock, BSSW, LSW

Bio
Jacob Pollock, BSSW, LSW, brings a unique blend of lived experience, resilience, and academic achievement to his work as a therapist. As a U.S. Air Force veteran, he understands firsthand the challenges veterans face when reintegrating into civilian life and navigating complex personal struggles. After a difficult transition out of the military, Jake found himself confronting the culture shock, mental health challenges, and legal issues that many veterans face. With the support of the VA, he overcame these obstacles, committed to sobriety, and discovered a passion for helping others on similar paths.
Since getting clean in 2018, Jake has devoted himself to studying social work, achieving academic excellence as he completed his Bachelor of Social Work. Through his field placement at a men’s homeless shelter in Dayton, Ohio, he gained valuable experience working with a diverse population, including individuals from varied backgrounds and those dealing with mental health challenges and homelessness.
As a passionate advocate for social justice and human rights, Jake is committed to working with veterans through programs like the Veteran’s Justice Outreach (VJO). He believes in the power of understanding and empathy to support veterans facing legal issues, advocating for fair treatment and helping them navigate complex judicial processes. His goal is to work within the VA and, later, the prison system, using his background to provide meaningful, trauma-informed care to those who may struggle to find connection and trust with traditional therapists.
Understanding the importance of balance, Jake remains deeply committed to his own mental health and ongoing personal growth. He is especially sensitive to the need to manage his biases, which he continues to explore through therapy and professional reflection, ensuring he provides compassionate and unbiased support to each client.
For those looking to work with a therapist who truly understands the complexities of veteran life, recovery, and overcoming personal and legal challenges, Jake offers a non-judgmental, supportive space. He is dedicated to guiding others toward a brighter future, using both his lived experiences and professional training to help veterans, felons, and individuals facing mental health crises find their own paths to resilience and recovery.
Specialties: Veterans’ support, mental health, substance use recovery, trauma-informed care, reentry support for justice-involved individuals, and advocacy within the judicial system.
